Ted Lasso

Ted Lasso

The new Apple Plus series, Ted Lasso, has hooked me after three episodes.  Based on a commercial, the premise is that a Premier soccer team in England hires a Division II champion American football coach to manage the team.  The owner, a recently divorced and humiliated woman, wants to destroy the team (ok, that was the premise of Major League, but this owner is less villainous).  Jason Sudeikis plays Lasso, and he is great in the role.

So far, the right balance of tension is maintained throughout the episode, but the resolution is satisfying without being as unbelievable as the premise.  The bad guys are likable without being too likable, and the good guys (so far Lasso, his assistant, the equipment dork, and the glamorous girlfriend of the jerk star player) are great.

What else am I watching, you don't ask?  Game of Thrones (first time, up to Season 2 Finale), and Big Bang Theory (never watched it before the reruns were ubiquitous).  I am also reading I, Claudius by Robert Graves, as well as a couple other books on my iPad with the Kindle App.

GOT is fine; BBT is very good; and I, Claudius is fun.  I've read so many books on Ancient Rome, it's nice to have the semi-fictional first-person account of the 4th Emperor.  I loved Derek Jacobi in the PBS series, which I own on DVD and is somewhere in the house.
