My Thoughts on the 2020 Election
There is no way for President Trump to prove sufficient election fraud to prevent Joseph Biden from becoming the 46th President of the United States. That does not mean that Biden won legitimately, just that proof is almost impossible to obtain. Just for the record, I do not think that the election was sufficiently rigged to ensure a Biden victory, but I also thought Trump had no chance to win the nomination, much less the election, in 2016.
I will not criticize Trump for his behavior up to this point, a few days before Thanksgiving. He came remarkably close to winning the election in 2020, and he dealt with some horrible Democrats for four years as President. Perhaps this is the best time to ask the philosophical question "in politics, do the ends justify the means." Was Trump, to paraphrase Nietzsche, a monster whose enemies became monsters in their fight to take him down? Who was more dangerous to democracy, the relentless resistance that worked for more than four years to take Trump down, or Trump, who may actually believe that this recent election was more Schiff, Schumer, Comey, Mueller, Brennan, Pelosi, and Bennie Sanders bullshit? Comey is either a hero or a douchebag, depending on how you answer the "ends versus means" question.
I will, however, answer the question for myself. The ends rarely justify the means, if the means are immoral. I think what the monsters on the left did to Trump was worse than anything Trump did to get elected President or did as President. During his presidency, Trump never once defied a court order; he tried to do what he said he would do during the campaign; and he made some excellent decisions in domestic and foreign policy. He also made some bad decisions, but nothing approaching Bay of Pigs, Iran-Contra, or Lois Lerner at IRS. I believe that the evidence of racism on the left is more compelling than evidence of racism by the Trump administration. His support among minorities went up, not down, in 2020.
No, Trump's problems were caused by his decision to continue to act like Trump once he became president. His loud mouth and provocative comments got him the office, so why not be a loud mouth and provocative president? I have to tell you that Barack Obama was a very elegant speaker when he was insulting and condescending to his political opponents, but he was still a divisive jerk. In business, Trump is the guy you knew would be difficult to deal with during the project; Obama is the guy who screws you with frilly language and backroom machinations.
The so-called "resistance" put me in the unenviable position of having to defend someone like Trump. Fortunately, the resistance demonstrated to me that they were just as Trumpian as Trump, and probably a lot more dangerous. People who would not have tolerated nicknames for the Obamas called Trump the "orange turd" and Melania "melanoma." Defund the police? Old white men, except Biden of course, need to be treated differently based on their age, race, and sex, but that is not ageist, racist, or sexist. Fascism needs to be condemned, except when fascist techniques are necessary to get what you want.
Trump may be a monster, but the monsters who fought him will now be in charge. Shall we now be monsters in our fight against those monsters? Jesus Christ, I hope not.
